Vedic homemade Dhoop made from desi cowdung.
Vedic homemade Dhoop made from Desi cow-dung.
I had tried Dhoop making in my home in the traditional Vedic style. Let me explain you the recipe and other details.
Items needed -
1. Natural Camphor - Bhimseni Camphor - 50 gm
2. Nagarmotha (Cypriol) -20 gm)
3. Guggul - 20 gm
4. Tagar - Valeriana walichii - 20 gm
5. Anantmool root - Indian Sarsaparilla - 20 gm
6. Kapur kachri - Hydachium Spikatum - 20 gm
7. Jatamasi (Spikenard) - 20 gm
8. Desi Cow dung- 1 kg
9. Ghee (Clarified butter) - 100 gm
10 - Gangajal (Water sourced from Ganga River) q.s.
11. Purified water - q.s
First of all start with Sundrying of cowdung for couple of days and then make a powder of it.
Make a uniform mixture of the herbs with Ghee and Ganga Jal and mix thoroughly.
Use purified water to make mixture in a Semisolid form.
Make cones and put them on a metallic plate for sun drying.
Dry the cones in sun but not in direct sunlight. Put the plates on a shady place and dry for 3-4 days.
After drying, store the dhoops in a box for use.
The smell of dhoop was really rejuvenating and soothing. For me, its hard to explain the smell but I can say it elevates mood and create a positive environment in home.
Do try my recipe and let me know your thoughts.....
P.s. - I have seen some studies in internet, performed by western scholars that, burning these herbs (above ones) had reduced microbial count from environmental monitoring via plate count method.
Cheers !
